The c-word is "cusp"?

I can't help feeling that today will be looked back upon as the day we turned the corner between Early Fall (or even Indian Summer) and Late Fall. The thought occurred to me as I sat at my desk watching the temperature steadily decline in a little pop-up window on the upper right, and a sprint across the lawn through a blustery wind to get my flu shot at the health fair confirmed it. As
mollyqc pointed out, the sugar maples haven been basically stripped of their leaves. And since they were the chief source of colour in an otherwise dull autumn, it would be looking a lot more bleak out there even without the dark grey clouds racing by overhead.
Seeking to mark the moment appropriately, I dug through the cabinets and found some Harry and David cocoa from
monshu's Christmas box circa 2008. Luckily it seems to have held up well, and we sipped mugs of it as we at through the Rocky Horror episode of Glee. That show is a tough sell for me at its best, and all this had to offer me was a too-brief cameo of Meatloaf and an acceptable rendition of "The Time Warp". But having my ass already planted on the couch convinced me to give Raising Hope another try, and I didn't regret it. Here's the exchange that had me guffawing so loud
monshu came running down the stairs:
I'm at something at a loss for what to do nights until I can start reading Let the right one in again. When I started my methodical read-through, I didn't realise there was a gap of several days at the start of the second section. Looking for something to fill the time, I grabbed Kristin Lavransdatter off the shelf, but so far it's failed to seize me. Maybe it's the translation I have with all its twee "'twas'" and "eres". Time to reexcavate the Lovercraft?

Dude #1: Drop her off at the fire station...You'll have six hours to get her back. My dad did that to me once when I was seven and I called him the c-word. He waited five-and-half hours before he came back and got me.
Dude #2: What kind of person would do that just to teach someone a lesson?
Dude #1: I'll give you a hint: it starts with C.
