It's now summer and the Info Desk is dead. Deadly dead. On the plus side, the means I should have the time and concentration to write less half-assed boring posts! Not today, though.

Note that there is still time to respond to the Wilgame Romantic Subplot Survey. Personally, I'm surprised there aren't more write-ins. I'm even more surprised that "Korgrim and the Succubi" trails "Davis and the Talking Sword" in popularity. This does, however, confirm something I've long maintained: Davis needs to Get Some more often. (Ah, l'art, elle imite la vie!)

It is a source of pain to me that, once a poll is generated, it's not possible to edit it. The misspellings in this one fix me in their sights with hostile reproach. Yes, I know it's really Ysgard, not Isgard. Speaking of which, [livejournal.com profile] spookyfruit suggested this might be the name of some actual Norse paradise as opposed to a laughable attempt to file the serial numbers off of "Asgard". My research hints at the latter, but Old Norse is such a rich and complex tongue that it yields an acceptable meaning anyway. Yss is defined as "the noise made by a crowd or swarm". This makes Ysgard not a bad name for a dimension where fighting and partying are practically the only pursuits.

It wouldn't sound like a plane that would hold much appeal to Owlet, but his first day there was rather enjoyable--except for the seeing-all-his-friend-brutally-slain-and-then-dying-painfully part. Due to the fact that he was (a) invisible most of the time and (b) did nothing to piss off the indestructable masterwork-rock-flinging giants, he ended up being the last man standing in knock-down drag-out free-for-all involving doughty souls with unpronounceable Welsh names (twenty years of interest in Welsh and I still can't nail Culhwch) and evil, gargantuan redheads. His coup, though, was not felling an ettin with a well-placed stab to the vitals, it was ripping the necklace of fireballs right off the collarbone of an irritating imp familiar. Go Owlet! Olidammara, were you watching?

I think the necklace of fireballs goes very nicely with my orange-and-auburn-striped hair.

That could be very, very good...or very, very bad!

Ysgard is too a real place. It's right next to Mount Olumpis and the Olysian Feilds, and connected to Hudes and HE-Doublehockeystick by the great tree Igdrazil.
