muckefuckAs I've had occasion to tell several people lately, it's rare that I make it as far as the Loop these days, let alone past it. But I'm always good for a landmark birthday, which is how I found myself in Oak Park toasting an old college friend, devouring her aunt's curried meat rolls, and chattering away about everything from Bollywood westerns to Mesopotamian water rights.

innerdoggie and tyrannio who were heading to what I now think of as the Deep South, I ended up playing native guide to a charming pair of Canadian sisters. One claimed to be from "Toronto", but named a far northern suburb I'd never heard of before, and the other lives in Vancouver. I packed them onto the same express bus I was taking and made sure they got out before it embarked on the Drive.
All in all, a very different experience than last night, which I spent at my favourite gay bar in Uptown celebrating the milestone birthday of a coworker. The old mutual friends I expected to see never showed, so I did my best to entertain a shy newspaperman who seemed to know none of her other friends and ran into a sweet younger bear that I'd be introduced to by Coleman and never run into again.
Add in the time I spent on Facebook and bruizr, and it was definitely one of my most social weekends in a while. Clearly I need to venture out of this air-conditioned cave more often.
