Finally, the allure of Annapurna for my Big Bear Coworker is clear: minimal service, zero atmosphere, but my god was it ever cheap and tasty. [livejournal.com profile] monshu particularly like the masala dosai for being lacier and crisper than what we've had elsewhere and I thought the uttapam with red onion was one of the single most beautiful pieces of food I've ever seen. Rounding out the meal were some tasty dahi vada with excellent texture (though I wish they hadn't doused it in so much tamarind sauce, since it made the yoghurt too cloyingly sweet to finish) and a honkin' big plate of bhel puri. Super satisfying.

We needed to make some room before hitting Patel Café so we took a brief survey of fabric stores in preparation for my sister's visit, bought cookies from Mughal Bakery, and filled a box of mitthai for a friends birthday at Sukhadia. The café was bustling; I had a chikoo smoothie and [livejournal.com profile] monshu fought his way to the bottom of two very generous scoops of pistachio. Afterwards, we set off to King Sweets for halwa and katli. All in all, a more typical day on Devon would be tough to imagine. Why is it then that we don't do this more often?

I remember not liking the dhokla at Annapurna as much as at Sukhadia's, but that was a long time ago.
