Dirty laundry

I don't know why I bother to read the news at all, since it just pisses me off. From today's Tribune:
- Vicente Fox just signed a bill outlawing "all forms of discrimination", specifically "ethnic origin, gender, age, or religion". Notice anything missing? Grrrrr!!
- Three INS agents who beat a man so badly he became a quadriplegic and died 11 months later are awaiting sentencing. Why the fuck do we employ such brutal thugs to secure our borders?
- Confirmation, from several sources, that Saddam Hussein was in fact denying Iraqi children with leukemia treatment for propagadna purposes. But do you think those critics who vociferously held the embargo responsible for those deaths have admitted they were wrong? Don't hold your breath!

And don't hold yours either, or you'll clash with everything, you barely-competent-at-being-gay gay man!
Sean LeFreniere (pro-war liberal) reports an exasperating encounter with antiwar lefties here, and exasperatedly declares the left dead, DEAD TO ME!here.
It's not as if the abuses of the Hussein regime were a big secret before the war; opponents of the war were obliged to argue that U.S. imperialism was always already worse than anything Hussein could possibly do, if only because its sins were ours rather than someone else's. It probably should not be surprising that this argument has not been shaken even as we continue to discover the myriad ways in which the Hussein regime was even worse than anyone had previously imagined, given that what we knew going in was plenty bad enough. (And yet, it does still surprise, somehow).
