Why you shouldn't donate money to Japan.

Says what I've been wanting to say since the tragedy struck but have been holding off from saying because (a) it was too early and (b) I couldn't have said this eloquently and authoritatively.

Waiting until someone else wrote it was apparently a wise move to avoid an angry mob. So many of the comments he got were terrible and unreasonable; I know I couldn't have taken it. Ignorance is one thing, but angry, vitriolic ignorance: it makes you want to never write something in public again.

Ack! I accidentally read some of the comments on that article. I have to go weep for humanity now. That said, "Unrestricted giving counts more" or something might have been a more effective headline.

I find the headline to be terribly misleading. It's just human nature to sympathize with big televised tragedies, so I see no wrong in the donations per se. People should just make sure their money won't be reserved for that specific cause.

The article kind of assumes a level response on the part of Americans to all the peoples of the world, which I'm not sure is safe either.
