Came across this linguistic boner in a Reuters article just now:
"Wake up, Mubarak! Today is your last day!" was the cry of a crowd in Mahalla, a textile mill town in the Nile Delta.
"Mahallah" (محلة) simply means "neighbourhood" in Arabic. I assume the town they had in mind was Al-Maḥalla al-Kubrā‎ (المحلة الكبرى), which has been the site of significant demonstrations over the past week. Kubrā is simply the feminine form of "great". So this is more or less the equivalent of saying, "Rapids, an industrial town near Lake Michigan".

(There's a reason why I'm not relying on them as my primary source of breaking news for the situation in Egypt.)

I haven't really checked their site since they got the boot. Are they still reporting with the same comprehensiveness as before?
