Can a "Game Night" still be considered a success if no one actually plays a game? As long as everyone leaves happy, I suppose the only reasonable response is to rebrand it a "dinner party". It's my own fault for inviting nothing but homosexuals. If it had been straight people, we'd've been playing within half an hour of the coques hitting the table. But since it wasn't, we were still sitting around talking about food two hours after the last guest had arrived.
I also blame the weather. "My mistake," I said, addressing all assembled as we basked in a cool zephyr wafting through the back porch, "was not waiting until it was shittier out." I am actually very curious to see how things work out in the dead of winter. Everyone's October is so full that it sounds like it may be two months before we can schedule another.
The comment that made my night was, "Da, I'm so happy right now, I could punch you." Maybe some of you have had the privilege of hearing your food praised by an honest-to-Julia published cookbook author before, but I haven't. And having fretted about having a proper selection of non-alcoholic beverages, it was gratifying to have the first visitors respond to my offering them with a, "Naw, the drink drinks are fine with us."
