I'm happy to say that title no longer fits. I came up with it when I was planning a thank-god-August-is-over post looking back on a month than began with one should've-been-awesome experience undermined by Drama and ended with another. But if I step back and take a slightly longer view, then it all balances out nicely: The summer gets bracketed by a somewhat-disappointing Mem Day weekend and a near-best Labour Day, the mindfuck Montreal vacation is outweighed by a very successful Florida one, and the blinding afternoons outnumber the dim nights of the soul.

The weather is getting more changeable even as my emotions are becoming more settled. If there's one real positive to the last month, it's the strides I've made in reconnecting to people who really care about me: [livejournal.com profile] monshu first and foremost, but also friends and family I've neglected for far too long. I've seen more of my brother and my sister-in-law in the last week than I have in the previous couple months, and pretty soon I'll be camping with my father, hosting my brother, and talking turkey with my Mom. We made a good start on that Sunday night, but the real work is only beginning.

In any case, I couldn't ask for a more beautiful day than today. And at the end of it, I'll be feasting (though, alas, not drinking) with good friends yet again in a restaurant I've always wanted to try. Then I have a mere couple of days to recover before undertaking another ambitious weekend: guests on Friday night, books and pie on Saturday preceded by the Lakewood-Balmoral Yard Sale and followed by Von Steuben Day beers and brats, total collapse on Sunday. Sooner or later, the exhaustion will get the better of me and my run of good health, but until then I'm going to be living the life I should've been all this time.
