The best revenge
Two years ago today,
monshu treated us to our first home-cooked meal in the new place. For the record, it was roast pork shoulder, mashed sweet potatoes, zucchini with basil and cheese, and a green salad. Tonight's meal was similar although considerably less elabourate: centre-cut pork chops, broiled; Mirai corn, boiled; and a green salad with portobellos. The chops in particular were ridiculously juicy; I can't imagine that if I had managed to brine the ones from Dominicks they would've turned out any better.
Unfortunately, neither of us was in a mood to celebrate. I thought screwed-up sleep was to blame for my hurty head, but I eventually figured out a sinus headache was involved. And poor
monshu is at his wit's end with his fellow administrators at work. But the luxury of relaxing in the cool evening air on our wonderfully comfortable deck chairs as we consoled each other was celebration enough. On the whole--and despite some really rocky moments--living her together has worked out better than I might have thought. The chances of another leisurely al fresco pork dinner two years from now are excellent.
