It is incredible to me how quickly plants can move once they set their minds to it. It was only--what, Monday? that I first noticed a bud on one of the narcissus being forced by [livejournal.com profile] monshu for the Spring Festival and today it's already bursting into bloom. A little late for New Year's itself, but I'm not picky, I'll take anything in the first ten days.

The end of the month is little Klofuss' one-year anniversary chez nous and I'm trying to think how to celebrate it properly. I was thinking of a spa day: Bath and quadripedicure. [livejournal.com profile] monshu's suggestion was that we take him to the vet for the first time. Whatever we do, I think it's high time we found out whether or not he's one of the 1% of cats who won't actually eat tuna from a can.

They kept Dad another night since the stress test was inconclusive and they couldn't irradiate him that afternoon. He's fine, just bored. I didn't realise that this was his first hospitalisation since the obstetrician slapped his heiny. "Now I know why I stayed away from hospitals," he told me. It occurs to me that I haven't been hospitalised either since an operation when I was four years old, though I spent a couple hours in the very same one Dad is now back when I had my endoscopy.

I had my first operation at the end of last year. Not fun, on so many levels. I suspect, actually, that one of the reasons the medical profession loves opiates so much is that they keep the patients snoozy and malleable (and the nurses correspondingly cheerful and businesslike).

Now I think about it, I wonder why Michel Foucault didn't write much about drugs in the clinic.
