Green is the colour

In our orgy of shopping Saturday, we picked up a compost pail for the kitchen. Hitherto we had only a cheap plastic pitcher which
The pail was nearly full when we left the house yesterday morning, so we were dismayed to find it empty when we got home. Our best guess is that the rule guiding our cleaning woman is, "If there's a bag, throw it out," since up to know she's always ignored the pitcher and cleaned around it. But it's hard to know, since she seems to get bolder in her decision-making all the time. We also found a scent diffuser set up in the pantry. "Oh, that belongs in the bathroom,"
Composting in our backyard, by the way, has been a roaring success at its primary goal of making nice liberal people feel better about themselves. I used to reproach myself every time another bag of wilted greens or tupperware container of brackish vegetable matter got eighty-sixed. Now I just think to myself, "Oh this'll make terrific compost!"
