Honest to Gawd, can we return to the day when I could freely yell at people for putting their bare feet all over the fucking furniture? I don't know who the hell died and made this acceptable comportment, but I really want to bring them back to life so I can beat them to death. WITH MY FEET.

I have this work mate who is insufferable with his feet. From May through October, when he is shod only in flip flops, I have to live with his fucking feet. He sits in his chair in a half lotus position and continually plays with his toes while he is talking. And I swear the hand goes from toe to mouth. He sits back in such a way that it is impossible to ignore. It might be one thing if it were a four year old girl, but this is a middle aged man, overweight, and not all that pretty. I would almost rather he pull out his member and masturbate.

I have almost given up on how to handle this.

I've simply been trying to reset my internal disgust-o-metre, since the societal tide seems definitely to have turned and I don't want to end up a cantankerous old woman with a broom.

A few years ago Mr. Areia and I were staying in a B&B in Galina, and got shouted at by the owner because we were sitting with our bare feet tucked up on the couches in the common area. We'd come back from a day sightseeing and taken showers, and we certainly weren't picking our toes (ick), so neither of us thought we were doing anything wrong or socially inappropriate. The owner was about as horrified as you sound up there.

I'd never put footwear of any kind on the furniture, but clean bare feet were acceptable even to my very houseproud grandmother. It does seem to be something people feel very passionately about.

Trust me, the people I see putting their feet on the furniture around here every day are not freshly showered. Not to mention the fact that "clean" is a rather relative term. No amount of soap will remove athletes foot, for instance.

I think athlete's foot fungus is move of a problem in the winter when people's feet don't get aired out. But that's just what my mama told me and I haven't confirmed it for myself.

Gosh, I didn't know there was anything wrong with putting bare (or sock-clad) feet on furniture. I thought you were supposed to keep your shoes off the furniture (and therefore take them off when you put your feet up.)

Is your anger directed mainly at the bare feet or are you bothered by feet on the furniture in general, with or without shoes?

I was taught that when using the fucking furniture, nudity of all types was acceptable, not just of the feet.
