A whole morning wasted trying to configure programmes and I'm finally close to regaining the functionality I had before "upgrading". Thanks, Microsoft! Oh, well; it's not like I had anything that I absolutely needed to get done today anyhow.

But it gets better: We were warned that the insane security settings would get even more restrictive, but I didn't have a practical idea what that meant until I tried to increase the dpi in order to spare my poor eyes and it asked me for an administrative password. Yes, dear ones, you have to be an administrator TO CHANGE THE SIZE OF THE FUCKING FONT. Just goes to show that there's no MS "feature" so stupid that our local IT can't make it even stupider.

DPI is more than changing the default font size, as it's normally linked to the display device you're using. Have you looked for an option to change the font size, rather than the more technical approach of changing the DPI? (I don't have a Vista Box in front of me right now, or I'd look myself) I think that in Vista, you don't change the font size by changing the DPI, you do it by changing the font size.

Except that if you look at the "Personalize" menu on the Control Panel, you'll find only the option "Adjust font size (DPI)". So if there is some way to adjust only the font size, it's cleverly hidden.

Yeah, that's lame. Of course, in each application, you can change the font size of its content, but that won't help the menus. The other way to do it is to decrease your screen resolution.

I say bring in one of those big monitor magnifiers from Gilliam's Brazil, that should set the proper tone. Although then you should probably also jack the circulation desk up by about 5'
