No matter how many times I get uncled, it never gets old. He may have another trendoid name, but at least this is one with a tenuous connection to our heritage, being the name of one of the ancient kings of Munster. My older brother asked for a nickname on a par with "Ike" for his older brother, and I suggested "the OG" on the basis of his initials. I suppose one could also go with "Og", even if it does make him sound like (quoth [livejournal.com profile] monshu) "some sort of lumbering monster". I'll be honest that I was praying for a St Patrick's Day baby as hard as my SIL was hoping for a St Joseph's Day one, so we must've cancelled each other out. He ends up coming on the Feast of St Narcissus of Gerona, which is none too shabby. For all I know, there are even daffodils in bloom down in STL already. I mean, they're almost out here, against all expectations.

I guess this means we'll soon be heading south for another christening. For once, at least, we won't have to worry about going off the road in a blizzard or dissolving into the liquid atmosphere of a St Louis summer. If a certain someone is really lucky, there may even be some kind of crazy quilt convention that weekend! Now for the decision: Do I buy another bottle of wine to store for his 21st, or should I plump for a bottle of Irish whiskey instead?

The Mysterious Mr. O

I like our BIL's term: Mr. O. It doesn't come tripping off the tongue, but it has a certain drama to it. My guess he'll just be called O.

Once they pick out a date for the christening, I'll look into baseball tickets.

Our sister has suggested that their current nicknames (Drewbie, E-Man, Littlest Guy, and Mr. O) make them sound like a superhero group (with Littlest Guy as a sidekick).

So maybe they should really call him The One (in honor of our new President).

Congratulations! I'd say go for the wine. Whiskey doesn't age in the bottle, so while it'd be cool to have one from when he was born, it's not going to be qualitatively different from the bottle you'll be able to buy him in 2030. (If it's possible to buy a future on part of a barrel being laid down now, which for all I know it may be, that would be a different matter.)
