So what have we learned? That dental floss can stay by the sink, but a nightguard should be kept in the cabinet. That a scrunchie can go on the towel ring with the handkerchief I use to clean my glasses but that a hairbrush gets put away. That underarm deodorant can stay out with the collection of colognes, and that hair gel belongs in the shower.

...as for towels...

Ah, towels. Evidently they should be hung on the towel rack accross the room from the shower rather than slung over the shower curtain rod where they are so very handy.

On the plus side--they actually empptied the shredder bin and even my ashtray on the back porch.

Oh and pyrimidical piles are de rigeur--books, trivets, whatever should always be stacked largest to smallest and then something perched on top--e.g. a fruit bowl.

That is fascinating. I bet you could construct a fairly rigorous structuralist anthropology of the axes (clean/unclean, order/disorder) relevant to various cultures by inviting different crews of maids of varying but uniform ethnicities into your home to deal with similar puzzles.

Although I don't think my mother would have left a scrunchie out. Visible chaos, those rugose folds of fabric, possibly with stray bits of hair...

"stacked largest to smallest" etc.

... reminds me of my nephew who was a total neat freak when he was two or three years old and for example kept aligning all the figures in the nativity scene and sort them by size.
