You are what you write

Browsing people's LJ profiles, I've come across several disclaimers to the effect of "There isn't room here to really describe me" or "There's more to me than what you see in my journal." My reaction is, naturally, DUH. And then I think, What are they saying? Do they think there are people whose personalities can be summed up in a hundred-word profile? Who are no deeper than their journal entries?

I realise that there are, in some sense, no winners in war; that jingoistically rooting for one side or another is simpleminded, peabrained, and wrongheaded; that ethnic nationalism is misguided, atavistic, and antagonistic to the democratic and humanistic values I hold dear; that the PUK and KDP are fractious, corrupt, underdisciplined, and unpredictable.

And yet, as I read the news today, a sizable chunk of my animal brain was shouting:

GO KURDS!

I think your thoughts on profiles is insightful. People probably don't think thing about it as clearly as you do (as you know). Although, for me personally, I'm inherently shallow and 100 words is far more than is needed to sum me up. :)
