The age old drama of self preservation!

Well, that was fun. Who knew that this day wouldn't be complete without another false alarm triggered by construction work? According to the story I heard being repeated, workers had let water leak from a bathroom into the ceiling below where it short-circuited the wires or something.
But it was the end of the workday and gorgeous outside, so everyone was in a festive mood. Plus I strode outside to find all the men replacing the roof lined up along the curb for my inspection. Definitely another couple of additions to the bearem there! The only bummer was a lack of cute firefighters. In fact, that was the only thing that gave me pause: The fire trucks couldn't manoeuvre past the roofers' cherry picker, so almost five minutes after we saw the lights flashing across campus, two firefighters came sauntering up to the entrance. Let's hope that wouldn't happen in the event of a real fire emergency, 'mkay?
Also reprising the disruption five minutes later was Not Amusing. Fortunately, everyone had the sense to ignore the second alarm completely and keep working. You'd think it would've been followed up with an "all clear" announcement on the PA system, but only if you mistook this institution for a well-oiled machine rather than the creaking jalopy it is.
