Oh, and for everyone on my Flist who's trumpeting the pick of Palin for VP as a colossal blunder on McCain's part, you might just want to have a peek at this link (ganked from
mollpeartree) before you start partying:

I admit, I hadn't really considered the Palin's-rubber-Obama's-glue aspect of the whole experience issue. And the points about the rural/urban divide are well-taken, too.

Maybe
and more to the point,to my jaundiced eye, is that this is all theater, for now- by November, it very probably will be back to that old refrainit's the economy, (roll your own here). Brings back that old refrain, especially after the last 8 years- who in their right minds would want the job in the first place?
And one last point to ponder- Obama trounced Hillary by the numbers, scooping out delegate counts out of long ignored venues all over- much in the same way BushCo took the White House the last two cycles. I've lost the link, but last poll I saw where it counts (in the Electoral College) put Obama well ahead of McCain. It took two drubbings for the lesson to hit home, but they aren't going to play by the old rules this cycle- and it will take more than a VP in sheep's clothing to change that significantly...

If you're hard-core abortion rights, you would never vote McCain's ticket no matter who's on it. But a lot of women aren't. Some of them were willing to overlook Clinton's stance on this and other issues because of her perceived strong points, but they won't do the same for Obama--especially not (as the blogger and commentators I linked to point out) after the same ugly misogyny that tainted the race for the nomination rears its head again in response to Palin.

Here's a summary of the one I saw: http://slog.thestranger.com/2008/05/violet_socks_at_reclusive_leftistprobabl.
How does it compare to yours?

Gruselig.

And Palin was a Steve Forbes supporter (and state co-chair, I believe) in 2000, about as far from Pat Buchanan as you can get.
For this (and most other political topics), it is better to just read conservative sites and skip all the lefties. The right covers all attacks (especially against a non-friend like McCain); the left seems to wallow in their biases.
