I owe my love of Magnetic Fields to [livejournal.com profile] sliv_1. Until he played them for me in his cozy SoMa flat nine years ago, I'd never so much as heard of them. With their archly clever lyrics and enchantingly retro synth sounds, they captured my heart. I've played 69 Love Songs so many times by now that--to be honest--I'm a little tired of it. (Not sick of it, just tired, like I wouldn't turn it off if it was playing, but I'd just as soon listen to something new instead.)

I discovered this video months ago but haven't put it into heavy rotation until just recently. Again, it's hard to say what resonates about it beyond a certain cheeriness in the face of the world's indifference. Plus, happy cartoon animals!

It's a good song, but I like others from their first album a lot more. Especially "Tar-Heel-Boy" and "Falling In Love With The Wolfboy". I never understood why people liked "100,000 Fireflies" so much.

And apparently, the video was stolen (cf. third video here)

I don't think I've ever heard anything from their first album. Of what I can find online, I prefer "California Girls" to "100,000 Fireflies".
