At around 4:30 yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] monshu and I had a tiff about--of all things--the placement of a lamp. There was a note of exasperation in my voice which he read as sarcasm, and only his sense of duty keep him from storming out. I told him he'd done enough and if he wanted to go, he should go. "But you still have hours of work ahead of you!" he protested. "That's right," I replied "I have hours of work ahead of me. You don't have to be here."

Poor [livejournal.com profile] monshu! What he wanted more than anything was to swing by, do his staging, and then bask in a beautiful result. Instead, he ended up spending most of the time cleaning and left before a single room was completely put together. I didn't finish up the last one until 10 a.m. this morning--right about the time the agent was supposed to show up to take pictures.

Of course, with a thunderstorm having just passed through, that was nixed. She said she might try again this afternoon, but it looks as dark now as it did then. Nevertheless, I still have my tremendous sense of accomplishment at having transformed what was a dust-covered shambles into a showplace, don't I? Perhaps, but I'm still too dazed by the whole process to really feel it. I think what I need to bring it home is to show the place to someone who's seen it before, like the Scoutmaster, and have them boggle.

This morning, I did something I haven't done virtually since I moved in: I took a shower in my own bathroom. The reasons for that are too embarrassing and stupid to relate, but fortunately they're also irrelevant at this point. For however long I hold onto to place as this point, I'll be living in it they way I should've been all along. [livejournal.com profile] monshu has every reason to be chuffed. Not only can he be proud of his handiwork, but in order to maintain it, I'll have to develop new habits of cleanliness bordering on the obsessive which will most likely transfer to our new place together.

Are you going to post pictures of the showplace? We don't care about the shambles.

Chuck, went through all of this 4 years ago

[livejournal.com profile] monshu meant to take some on Sunday, but as nothing was ready he held off. I'll see if I can tempt him to come back and try again.

BTW, his response to the last line of my entry? "What do you mean most likely transfer?"

In my case

I keep my place in pretty good shape. But then again, my piso is much smaller and easier to keep clean. I do in fact spend more time cleaning than I used to when I had a much bigger house. The trick is that after you move into your new place, make sure you put everything away so you don't have piles laying around. The more you "dispose of" before the move, the easier it will be after the move.

Chuck, been there, done that
