2. Belg. luidop. 8. Lit., "bigly". 9. Lit. "high voice". Chinese also has several verbs specifically meaning "read out loud", including 唸 niàn, 誦 sòng, and 呫嗶 tièbì.

Example sentence: "Did I just say that out loud?"

If you're looking specifically for "read out loud", consider also "vorlesen".

wwidsith's request included the qualifier "as in to say something out loud", so I was looking for more general terms, but I was simply struck by the richness of Chinese vocabulary in this area.

Ah yes, then "laut". As in, "Hab' ich das eben laut gesagt?".

That's exactly the example sentence I was going to use! Now to make the other translations...

The "just" is missing in the Irish and seemingly in the Spanish, and is problematical in the French, where the context points to "only recently" as the meaning required. If that nuance is important, then:

An bhfuil mé (díreach) tar éis é sin a rá os ard? (Or more naturally as a negative question: Nach bhfuil mé....?)

Est-ce que je viens de dire ça à haute voix ?

You could say "J'ai juste dit ça pour rigoler" etc. but that means "only", not "recently".
