Chupóptero doesn't even predate my father; the first attestation in the DRAE is 1947. Metralla, on the other hand, goes back at least two centuries earlier, but that's still not in the ballpark of los Reyes Católicos. Both it and its little brother metralleta do exist in the same form in Catalan, but chupóptero is uniquely Castilian.
