True patriotism

I haven't seen any crowing on my Friends list yet about Judge Aiken's stinging decision in the Mayfield case. I confess, I feel a bit vindicated, because my general reaction to the more outrageous provisions of the Patriot Act was that they wouldn't hold up in court, but we've had to wait longer than I would've hoped in order to see them struck down. In any case, here's a money quote for you:
So take heart: Even if our Congress is still spineless, our Judicial branch is notably less so.
By asking her to dismiss Mayfield's lawsuit, the judge said, the U.S. attorney general's office was "asking this court to, in essence, amend the Bill of Rights, by giving it an interpretation that would deprive it of any real meaning. This court declines to do so." (Source: AP)Oh, SNAP!!
So take heart: Even if our Congress is still spineless, our Judicial branch is notably less so.
