Sleep pig!

When I reread my older entries, it strikes me that I spend too much time complaining in them, and in particular complaining about not getting enough sleep. So, following the dubious philosophy that the reverse of a bad thing is a good thing, let me tell you about last night: I slept. Boy, did I sleep! I was in bed by 9:30. Unfortunately, I wasn't asleep immediately due to a little reflux trouble from the tomato sauce at dinner, but that was dealt with by 10 p.m. None of my annoying neighbours did anything to wake me. Well, maybe that's not true, but certainly nothing they did kept me up for more than a few minutes.

I'd told my boss yesterday not to expect me in before 10. As it turned out, I didn't get in until a little after 11. After all, it was almost 9 a.m. before I even got up. I didn't sleep through that entire time--I never sleep through the night even when I'm blotto on NyQuil--but I must've gotten at least 10 hours all told. Hopefully, all this rest will have its intended effect and I won't so much as feel the urge to doze during Così fan tutte tonight. It will be a rough adjustment tomorrow, when I'm wrenched out of bed at 6:30 a.m. again, but just for today I'm doin' alright.

How did you sleep?

I slept badly, in that the boy woke us up at 4 and it took me ages to get back to sleep. This is kind of good news, in that I've been sick for 3 weeks and when I'm sick it takes me forever to fall alseep but then I sleep like the dead. So the fact that I'm healthy enough for my regular kind of insomnia is good. I still would have preferred getting more sleep though.

For me, grumpiness is the chief sign I'm getting better. When I'm really sick, I'm simply too tired to let people annoy me. When they start to get my dander up again, then I know I must be on my way to recovery.

Actually really well, from midnight to 6:15, thanks. Between my 9-month old daughter's persistent cold, my slipped-disc-related sciatica and my son's recent night terrors, that's pretty good, and much needed.

I got a nifty little nap this afternoon, when our houseguest watched the baby for a while.
