YAY! Renee Flemming is returning to the Lyric next season!
BOO! She's singing Violetta!

Could be worse, of course: She could be singing Mimi. Anyone want to buy my ticket for La Bohème? I'd rather choke on a muff than see that old dog again.

I always thought Puccini was wildly uneven. He writes La Boheme (okay music, bad plot, I know I know, blame Dumas), then he writes something like Tosca (High! Drama!) and then...Turandot, which I love most.

You should totally stand out and scalp the tickets in front of the Lyric the night of. That's how I got a Rheingold ticket way back in '90-whatever. Ah, I miss the opera.

No, thanks. Just getting to the opera house requires an hour-long trip on public transportation and, on top of that, I'd have to kill an hour before even going to the opera house to stand outside--on a weeknight in the middle of winter. Fuck all that! I'd rather do craigslist.

I haven't opened my subscription information yet, but they say something in the press release about seven-opera members being able to trade out which opera they miss, for a small fee (and probably worse seats). Which one don't they give us this year?

In related news, mad props to LiveJournal's own [livejournal.com profile] off_coloratura for being a principle in Die Frau Ohne Schatten. That's one I'm looking forward to.
