Winter after all

I saw ice today! Not much of it, and it was already a bit melty, but there was actual frozen water on the street. It's winter after all!

Another sure sign of winter, albeit belated, made its appearance: My New Year's cold. Normally it hits shortly after my return from high-stress high-exposure STL, wrecking my New Year's celebrations with monshu. This year, however, it held off until the 3rd, instead ruining my Twelfth Night, which I spent propped up in bed forcing fluids. Whee! I'd been invited to two Epiphany parties, but in the end I only had the energy to drag myself over to monshu's. Smoked tenderloin from Paulina Meat Market was an adequate substitute for the pulled pork at the bear fest and there was Niederegger marzipan and persipan Lebkuchen but, alas, no substitute for the tasty herring at Umm ʻAt̤āʼullāh's.

Niederegger marzipan!!! Schwarzbrot, the chocolate covered beast? Oh it is so delicious.

This was a variety back of mini-loaves, some with milk chocolate coatings and some with various flavourings. So far, I've tried only the pistachio (which didn't wow me) and the espresso (which I thought was very nice).
