I've got a lot of not-ready-for-prime-time crap banging around in my head right now, such as:
- It's been over two weeks since I noticed the honey locusts starting to change and they still aren't very far along. Last weekend, I noticed that some yellowing lindens have caught up to him and a couple of early-bird sugar maples here on campus have passed them up.
- Note to self: Never get your heart set on sushi before going out to dine. Because if, for some reason, the good sushi place you were planning on going to is closed, you'll settle for mediocre sushi instead--and "mediocre sushi" is just a nice way of saying "bad sushi".
- Whether or not pasmada in Rulfo's line "¡Viejas y feas como pasmadas de burro!" really means "bruise on a pack mule caused by carrying loads", "ugly as a mule's bruises" sounds awesome in English and I'm going to start using it.
- Last night, I dreamt I was speaking Alemmanic. I said "i goh" for "I'm going", but it didn't sound right; only later did I realise it should've been "i gang". (goh is the infinitive.) I will Alemannisch richdig kenne schwätze!
- If an event is around a holiday, in Welsh it is "toward" the date (i.e. tua Clangaea "around Samhain"; cf. tua'r gorllewin "towards the west") whereas in Irish it is "under" the date (i.e. faoi Shamhain "around Samhain"; cf. faoin crann "under the tree")

I have a strict rule against sushi that falls below a certain minimum standard, and (unlike my standards when it comes to other things, e.g., beer, wine, food, clothing, cars, movies, television programming, and vacations) the minimum standard is pretty damn high. So, word.
