More heat than light in August

Excerpt from an e-mail exchange between yours truly and Nuphy:
I did have some trouble falling asleep last night, what with it never dipping below 80° (27° C), so I pulled out my copy of Faulkner's Collected stories. Something about hot sticky weather always makes me want to read Faulkner; I would've taken one of his novels with me to Florida, but I couldn't decide which one. (Just as well; Joe Keenan probably made for better nighttime reading, all things considered.)
Who do like to read when it gets really, really hot?
Da: Last night, I plugged in the air conditioner at last but still didn't turn it on....I did come close to finally giving in yesterday, but I figured I could hold out one more day for cooler weather. The thing is, the little window unit takes forever to cool the place and requires me to run around closing all the windows. It just seems too much trouble unless I'm sure I'll be running it for days on end.
Nuphy: There can be no doubt about it, you're certifiable!
