In a glance, it tells you how much money your time is worth. Salaried or not, you know what an hour of your time is worth. And how many hours of work it takes to equal the cost of paying for something.
It's not accurate, but it's a tool. And let me tell you, I look at some "saving money" tasks entirely differently now. An hour of my time to save $10? Yeah, forget that shit. Suddenly taking cabs can become just that much more palatable.
