Christmas Diary, Day Three: La Famiglia!

Not enough time to give the full account I began composing in my head--maybe I'll have a chance tomorrow morning when everyone is away--but I think I can sum up by saying simply: Best Family Christmas Party Ever. Good location, great venue, excellent service, fantastic food. Really, it's hard to imagine how it could've gone better. The pièce de resistence was the tenderloin of an 8-point buck the 15 year-old daughter of the hosts had shot her first time out. (Tells ya something about that branch of the family, doesn't it?)
If that weren't enough, I had a wonderful visit with my only surviving great aunt and some of her kids earlier in the day. Now if only the antacids would soak up more of the lactic acid from the obligatory toasts, I could get some damn sleep before my big day tomorrow. (For my sins, I've promised to help my father and stepmother prepare for tomorrow night's big Hannukah dinner.)

Christmukka...
On this end the boys and my neighbor are dropping by late afternoon for a drink and some cassoulet I made. While every crossroad farmstead in France has a different version, I opted for lamb, sausage, duck, and slab bacon with the beans.
Feast heartily everybody and enjoy the season!
Re: Christmukka...
I can't believe you waited until I was OUT OF THE STATE to make cassoulet.
Re: Christmukka...
Not to worry--I made a lot. As you know only I can! There'll be a big helping waiting for you Tues. when you get back. Along with a bunch of pickled red cabbage!

Two hours from now, I'm off to help Stepmom with the latkes.

Somethings are just TOOOOO much...
PS--I decided to forego the confit d'oie since Williams Sonoma didn't have any when I was out shopping yesterday.
