I'm back...

...and I've got questions!
  1. My father's birthday is in less than a week. We celebrated with a dinner, but it was at The Pasta House Co. (St. Louis' answer to The Olive Garden) so you can just imagine how special that was. His wish for "exotic meat" was trumped by his desire for "kid-friendly". So can anyone recommend a good mail-order exotic meat provider? He's good with the barbecue, so if I could only get some flash-frozen komodo steaks to him, I'm sure he'd do fine.
  2. Remember that guy from the Mitsubishi radio ads? The one with the gravelly voice and deadpan demeanour? No? He also played the tooth fairy in a series of t.v. spots for Sonicare, dressed in a pink tutu. Who is he? How do I go about finding out?
  3. At Vintage Vinyl with my brother, I ended up buying the Ffa Coffi Pawb compilation at something near full price and haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. Was this money well spent or am I going to end up feeling like a fool?
  4. Yesterday I visited the grand old cemetary where some of my ancestors are buried. When I mentioned this to the Scoutmaster, he said, "Don't people usually do that on All Souls [i.e. today]?" I couldn't say, since my family had no tradition of graveyard visits until I started promoting them. So what is your usual day for visiting family plots, if any?

You know I was so hoping you'd answer #1! Thanks--any time you go to a URL and are greeted by the words Whole Wild Boar Leg, it's a resounding confirmation you're in good hands.

As for #2, definitely Mitsubishi--at least in the Chicago market. I know nothing about voice acting so I don't know if another brand would risk using the same spokesman.

Google turned up this page, which identifies the actor as Todd Susman. Didn't look for an independent verification.

Todd has been extremely busy lately doing voice-over work for the likes of Greyhound, Mitsubishi Motors, and Bull's Eye BBQ Sauce.(IMDB)
Looks like we may have a match!

4. Mom goes on Memorial Day every year. Plus whenever I'm home. Plus about every other month or so if there hasn't been any other reason to go. A tad morbid, my mother.

I believe my extended family does follow the All Souls tradition. I don't recall for sure, because my nuclear family lives so far away from the major clusters that I only participated once.

My Bavarian Catholic coworker tells me that it's traditional in her family to visit the gravesites on both All Saints and All Souls (or Allerheiligentag and Allerseelentag in her native language).

1. You might try Savenor's meat market in Cambridge/Boston. They seem to ship. They have very strange things including lion meat there. I am told this is where Julia Child shopped.

4. Our family tradition was Memorial Day. Great-grandma Bessie would go visit the grave of great-granddaddy Rufus. I tend to go whenever I'm around. That reminds me, I should try to find out where those little flag holders come from.

In Spain, cemetery trips were always on All Saints, after mass. Then you go home and have huesos de santo with your merienda. No, really.

I haven't shopped there is a long while but the Paulina Market used to offer some exotic fare. No web site I could find.

4. We don't really have a family tradition of gravesite visiting. For me personally, I wind up visiting family plots in and around the times when I'm doing genealogical research.
