It's with mixed feelings that I regard the completion of the plaza. There's no downside to not hearing the thud-thud-thud above my head every day, but some of those guys were really hot. On the other hand, the demolition of the steps only a few feet from the only public entrance to the building without so much as a flimsy plywood fence to keep patrons from being showered in concrete dust is 100% doubleplus uncool.

One unalloyed positive though: Final Cubs night game of the year! No more being surrounded by clueless suburban twits in blue when I come home on the El! Last night, I was inches away from yelling out "ANY CUB FANS WHO ARE RIDING THIS TRAIN INSTEAD OF THE EXPRESS THAT STOPS RIGHT AT ADDISON ARE IDIOTS!" All that stopped me was realising how redundant it would be: They're Cubs fans, ergo by definition idiots.

Cubs suck, the Mets are pond scum (No wildcard for you--HA!), GO CARDS!

Ach, do you have no survival instinct whatsoever??? As dim as they may be, there's many of them and one of you, and you're in a confined space with them. Don't make Darwin rotate in his grave like a rotisserie chicken any more than he already is, danke. ^^;;;;

GO CARDS!

Well you can go to the games with [livejournal.com profile] nytemarewulf's mom then -- she's a BIG Cardinals fan. Considering most of her family's on that southern tip of Illinois right around there ...

You really think I can't outsmart a bunch of lunks who can't even figure out whether they want a northbound train or a southbound one?

I won't be attending any playoff games, alas, but I am looking for someone (and someplace) to watch them with (bzw. at) in Chicago. Suggestions anyone?

Oh honey, brains aren't everything.

I'm not doubting that you have the ABILITY to outsmart, dear, but there's so much you're easily neglecting :

  • Large brutish size of a number of Cubs fans

  • No manoeuvring space whatsoever and no chance of the train opening back up for any possible escape because the conductor'll think it'll be wiseset to stop

  • Mob mentality

  • The "You've Been Drinking, Haven't You?" Factor (thus greatly reducing predictability)

  • Indifferent CTA riders who AREN'T Cubs fans (or "lunks") who'll do nothing at all to help you and, in fact, might help THEM kick your ass because you got all the pissy Cubs fans agitated and delayed them from getting to wherever they were going (home, hot date, bath house, what-have-you).

  • Yes, yes, you have intelligence, honey, but even so, this particular scenario is NOT in your favour. :: laugh ::

You forget that these Cubs fans are mostly suburbanites and hence, instinctively terrified of Chicago public transportation and the people that ride it. They would likely easily be cowed on the way to the game...

After substantial lubrication, however, the trip home would probably be another story.

    And you forget that:

    * I'm coming from Evanston, so most of the fans are North Shore suburbanites with their families rather than urban-dwelling twentysomethings.

    * This is before the game and prodigious beer consumption which accompanies it.

Naw, in that case it's just pull the doors and watch them spill helplessly onto the tracks as the train stops short and they all lose their balance.

They would likely lose more than their balance...

I'd recommend trying that only if your shoes and other clothing are expendable.

ROFL. Like there aren't a sizable segment that GO to the game sloshed ^_-

Dude, this is starting to sound like the world's most fucked up role playing game, ever. ^o^
