The Economist, in the first line of its cover story for the new issue on the London bombings summed up well where I am: "Once it had happened, it produced an awful feeling of inevitability."

When the Towers fell, I wept. When Atocha was blown all to hell, I was beside myself the entire day. When I heard this morning that London had become the latest Western city to suffer a terrorist attack, I sighed and went to work. I do feel sad, but I'm no longer shocked and surprised. I feel only a grim resignation, wondering how much longer it will be until Chicago's turn.

I felt really angry at first; now I'm more sad.

I was concerned for my friends. They're all okay.

Now, I want justice. Lock up the terrorists and throw away the key, period.
