Duckie update!
I had no idea what I was starting when I came back and told my co-workers about the momma duck and her twelve hatchlings living just outside our windows. They immediately left to survey the scene. (Another co-worker wryly noted that "the average intelligence of the room just went up".) A little while later, I heard talk about leaving some water outside for them; yesterday, I noted the appearance of several open containers and witnessed two other co-workers tossing bread crumbs toward the back wall.
Today, I stepped up to the water fountain and noticed four people--two young women, two older men--all leaning on the radiators edging the windows and following the progress of the duck family back to the shelter of the tall grasses. Then I noticed a jerry-rigged plywood ramp soaring into the air, presumably to allow access to the world outside. What's next? A 24-hour duck cam?
