Round-up of recent petty indulgences

- Revisited Indie, this time with
monshu in tow. After hearing horror stories of evening crowds in the wake of favourable Reader reviews, I was relieved to find it mostly empty for lunch. If you can get there before 2:30 any day but Sunday, you can take advantage of fabulous lunch deals, half of 'em Thai and half of 'em Japanese. Mine was a six-piece spicy roll with three pieces of sashimi on rice, seaweed salad, and miso soup all for about $7.
- Revisited Cafe Bordeaux on Broadway and got the escargot crepe because--putain de merde! Snails for $7! I had it made with ricotta in order not to overwhelm the delicate taste of arthropods, but then I remembered that the only reason anyone eats escargot is as a vehicle for garlic butter. Thank god for the homemade harisa. Plus, I charmed the chef into giving me free dessert. Go me!
- Capped a work day chez moi with food from Mei Shung. Their lamb in hot bean paste is as stunning as always, but we were once again disappointed with a shrimp dish. Maybe there's some preparation on their menu that works, but we just haven't found it; it's a shame, because the shrimp themselves aren't at all bad.
- Got
monshu that pedicure that I've been thinking about ever since
themonkeybear not-blogged about his. I'd like to try it myself, but my feet are a newborn babe's compared to the GWO's horny, ingrown monsters. Normally the swank Vietnamese salon on Broadway does a manicure/pedicure back-to-back, but they did his simultaneously and it still took almost a full hour. They even bought him coffee!
