Well, the building engineer came by to look at our other persistent problems (doorknob always falling off, leak in ceiling, etc.) and sailed right past Mr Roach. If he's still here tomorrow morning, then he's a pet. I wonder what the cleaning staff will make of him, though. Mrs Smith seems to think they won't notice, but I'm imagining some high-pitched dialogue in Spanish or Polish reverberating off these walls in a few hours.

That reminds me: Did I ever tell you about the time my dad and his friends put a fer-de-lance in the fridge?

I would suppose a fridge is a pretty harmless place for any poikilothermic beast. Might be a good way to make sure your coworkers don't waste energy by lingering in front of the fridge.

It was already dead. But the cook didn't know that!

Well then,
Did it taste like chicken?

Can you really use 'he', or 'she' for that matter, to describe a cockroach? I was under the impression they are hermaphrodites.

Earthworms, yes, Blattaria, no

The woman from Preservation identified it as a German cockroach. Had I known that from the beginning, I might've tried talking to it. (ba-DUM-bum!)

A fer-de-lance in the fridge sounds almost as bad as a taipan in the trousers. Do tell...

The enormous Australian Hiising Cockroach has become a fairly popular pet here and, I believe, overseas. They are clean and well-mannered and very low-maintenance.

Your American brutes, however, make our summers a trial. Now, in the first half of winter, they are staggering around stupidly, taking forever to die.

Well my dad had this fer-de-lance, see. And he, like, put it in the fridge. But it was dead.

Hold on--give me some time to polish this up.
