Perhaps I need to reexamine the factors here:
  1. Sunday night, I have dinner with [livejournal.com profile] monshu and dream of sex.
  2. Monday night, I have dinner with Nuphy and dream of philosophy.
  3. Tuesday night, I have dinner with [livejournal.com profile] spookyfruit and dream of HUMAN SACRIFICE!
I was part of a cabal of small-time hoods hoping for a big score. At one point, we were robbing a bank; at another, a zoo; and in the end, we broke in on a little old lady who was loaded but had already been cleaned out. Before we did any of this, though, we dusted off copies of old Norwegian serials and our spiritual leader coaxed his young nephew to lie down. Then he ran a gilded dagger through his heart and lapped up the spurting blood.

Either that or it was the Zinfandel. I suppose the way to put both competing hypotheses to the test would be to have red wine with [livejournal.com profile] monshu tonight, but I'm kinda scared of what my subconscious might conjure up out of that.

Regardless, I'd like to thank Spooky for stuffing me with hot beef while his wife was out of the house. It's an experience I don't think I'll ever forget. In fact, I'll be humming to myself all day long.

Sweet! It could only have been better with a blood eagle.

"Scandinavian accounts describe the Viking practice of the "blood eagle", where a victim's ribs were hacked on both sides of his spine and his lungs torn out so that he resembled an eagle. This sacrifice to Odin, the one-eyed god of the warriors, was designed to inspire soldiers and terrorize victims and it demonstrates the sophisticated and systematic methods used by these warriors."

Me, I like the idea of the little soul flying away to Valhalla on its little bloody wings ...

Lots of blood eagles in Guy Gavriel Kay's latest book, BTW.

It was good for a book, but not Kay's best.
