Must...break...livejournal cycling...

It was inevitable that, after posting about my father's and brother's foibles, one of my own would soon come to light. The other night, I found a returned letter in my mailbox. Puzzled, I kept examining the address for some sign of why it didn't make it to its destination. Then it struck to me: That's my city, state, and Zip Code on the envelope, not that of an East Coast bank.

DUH!

I'd still like to point out that it took a week for my local post office to determine that a street address within the local zip code does not exist.

To be charitable to the post office (someone should every now and then), your complaint makes sense only if the postal clerk's directive on seeing the ZIP code/address mismatch was to return it to sender. More likely, a human clerk was probably assigned to see if they could figure out the correct address, e.g., was it a correct Chicago address with the wrong ZIP or could it be a similar street within the ZIP code or in Chicago. Maybe it took a week because they were making the extra effort to serve you.
