An geimhreadh nach rún dó a dhul amach
It was snowing when the GWO left the house a short while ago. Not a pretty snow: tiny pricks of ice that were only a couple of degrees away from being drizzle. I stood on the lower landing and watched him go, having just got up from my "golden siesta".
Now there's nothing falling. It's just cold and overcast and bleak and I wouldn't leave the house at all if I hadn't already talked up my plans to visit the Irish-American Heritage Centre again this year. I'm not sure what to expect. Last year, it was the warmest St Patrick's Day on record or close to it and the place was bursting at the seems. Judging from the online schedule, they have fewer acts this year. It's also going to be hard to dress for, since I imagine the refurbished school building has radiator heat and will be a sauna inside, whereas I don't remember seeing a coat check anywhere. I guess I'm just carrying around my coat with me and hoping no one spills beer on it.
After the Dooley Brothers, I'll be making the long trek back for dinner at Turtle and Turtlewife's. Tomorrow is a full Irish at Chief O'Neill's (another long trek, which Nuphy has pre-bagged on after seeing the weather report) and then
monshu and I will watch Secret of Kells in the mancave. Not sure about dinner; I kind of want pork and cabbage but I won't have time to go to the butcher's myself and I'm loath to ask the GWO, so maybe I'll just make some carlins.
