I'm happy I went to Blowoff tonight, but only just barely. I expected to come back euphorbicly exhausted from dancing my ass off, but somehow it never happened. The music peaked for me in the first hour with at fantastic remix of "Cites In Dust", but I sat it out because I was "pacing myself". I kept waiting for my buddies to show up and form a little knot that I could throw myself into. But it never really happened. One Eric never got drunk enough, the other never made it onto the floor. Some of the boys apparently never made it out of the hotel. Finally, I threw myself into the crowd anyway, and found it hostile to unaccompanied dancers. After several minutes of trying to boogie around immobile drinkers and being shoved by thoughtless partiers, I said "Fuckit" and left.

It's a damn shame because it had been such a wonderful day up to that point. [livejournal.com profile] monshu and I took our time dragging ourselves out of bed after an insanely late night. (Converted into normal human terms, the Old Man stayed up until five or six a.m.) We made it to Bucks when things were more-or-less in full swing and it was well into the dinner hour before I pulled myself away. (He didn't make it that long, poor tired thing.) I saw buddies of mine I haven't seen since Bear Prides long past--four or more years in some cases--and met an exciting array of new men, including a bear couple from Frankfurt and an even lovelier one from West Texas.

One of them was generous enough to take me out to dinner down the street and we wound up at Clarke's for dessert before I had to scuttle off to prep myself for the Metro. I've got an inexplicable fondness for that venue. I was on the upper balcony biding my time (and sparing my back) when Eric the Red found me and reminded me what I found special about the bears in the first place. A little after that, I ran into a former coworker and eternal sweetheart--which was lucky given that he's leaving town in a month. If only things had continue indefinitely in that vein, I'd be glowing about now, but except for fortuitously finding [livejournal.com profile] e_ticket in the crowd, there were surprising few other acquaintances to distract me.

Oh, well; that's why there's Sidetrack!
