I finally finished Artemis Fowl last night (more on that miserable turd later) so I gave myself permission to do a little book-buying at lunchtime. First, three paperback novels at $4 a piece: Maugham's The razor's edge, Raleigh's In the castle of the Flynns, and Dos novelas cortas (San Manuel Bueno, mártir and Nada menos que todo un hombre) by Unamuno. Then the little extravagance: First Year Polish by Oscar E. Swan (2nd ed.) and Supplemental materials for First Year Polish by Leonard A. Polakiewicz. Only $15, but extravagant because, seriously, when am I ever going to sit down and learn Polish? But it was the same price as the Hawai'ian dictionary which I didn't let myself buy because a Hawai'ian dictionary without glottal stops or vowel length? Why not publish an English dictionary without the letters e or s while you're at it?
On the way back, I passed some buckeyes and saw to my surprise that they were nearly in full bloom. When did that happen? I go by that spot every day and I hadn't even noticed they were budding.
