Chill winds

Finally, some fall weather! Recently, monshu has decided that his doctor's prohibition on caffeine was a load of hooey and gone back to the real stuff in the morning. At the height of his misocaffeinism, he even gave up green tea! But to underlie the fact that it's back on the menu, he ordered some "superfine" Dragon Well from Ten Ren which we sipped on the porch last night as we polished off the last of the mooncake. We had to use the tetsubin because it seems all but two of the old man's Yixing pots went missing in the move. Oh well; thanks to the magic of eBay, more on the way!

The maples around us are showing no signs of changing, but I can't say the same for other trees in the hood. The locusts in particular are slipping into their showy stage, making me long to see what they're like by my old place. (It's been another ten days since I've set foot there; still no real nibbles on the renting front.) A few neighbours are displaying autumnal decorations, but no real Halloweenery yet. How about your 'hood?

7. The only word which can't be traced back to an etymon meaning "almond". I believe it may be a diminutive of céasla "paddle", but I'm not really sure.
