Kennst du das Land, wo die Linden blühn?

It's linden blossom season! I never remember it coming this late before. It's so delayed, I thought I had unaccountably missed it this year. ("Unaccountably" because I pass through a cluster of them on my way to work every morning; if you've ever experienced the aroma of a single linden tree in full bloom, you can well imagine how hard this would be to miss.) Lilies are finally starting on my street. Yesterday, I went to check on the prairie plantings in the park and found the rattlesnake master on the verge of blooming. The wild indigo is in flower as well as some of the wild asters, but no sign of the black-eyed susans yet.

(Viewing the plantings I helped put in standing at nearly my height gave me another tinge of melancholy at having to leave my apartment, but I think I'm going to save up all those sentiments for a future unbearably Proustian post.)

I've been meaning to post a progress report on my place, but it just gets me depressed about everything else which needs to be done. I haven't even started packing anything away to be schlepped down to my storage unit and I still don't know how I'm going to get rid of half of this stuff--monshu's old computer, the metal file cabinets, the last Ikea pieces, etc. I thought about putting them into the cooperative yard sale on Saturday, but that would've required time away from priming a wall that I simply didn't have.

At least I know the fate of my "wedding china". (By that I mean the Crate & Barrel set that our friends generously pitched in to buy when I was still living with Nuphy.) I called up my ex, who is still using the mismatched pieces my mother gave me when I was an undergraduate, and asked him if he'd like it, and he said yes. It seems only right given that it was a gift to the two of us. Now e.'s hand-me down set can become the good china, monshu's black plates can become our everyday ware, and each of us will have less to pack come August.
