So I got very, very close last Friday to posting a twist on that "My Geek Shlong Is Longer Than Your Geek Shlong" Meme (a.k.a. the "Not On My Friends List" meme). It was to be things that not only did none of my Friends own, but which no one anywhere should. That it occurred to me that I'm trying to move
away from judgementalness. Most of the things I planned to mention were bad, but only in the poor-quality or ignorantly-misleading senses, not in any truly reprehensible, must-be-stopped-at-any-cost manner. I suppose a variation with more positive spin would be aThings Few People Own That More People Should list, but I don't feel like going out on a limb to justify my personal preferences right now. So, no meme.
I don't know why I didn't knuckle down and write an entry about my overcrowded weekend. (Horst might say, "Lack of discipline?") I'll have to satiate everyone's burning desire to know with a brief run-down and vague intentions to expand on it later. Bulletpoints? Why not; they're pretty:
- Hung out with
monshu's friend MG on Friday night and Sunday morning. Wonderful, intelligent, fascinating guy. We talked politics a lot, but
monshu doesn't think he went away with the impression that I'm a narrow-minded, compassionless, self-hating fag. (Then again,
monshu also thinks I'm going to vote for Mr Teresa Heinz on November 2.) - Hung out with Dad, his wife, her daughter, and their friends on Saturday. Really a fun group with enviable economic achievement.
- Saw Primer with
his_regard,
bunj, and
princeofcairo Saturday night. I've got a knack for picking the "festival" films that are about to get a general release, don't I? Worth it, though, not only for the bragging rights but for the top-notch Q&A with the director. (Whether out of pride or what, no one asked "So what the fuck was the deal with the last half-hour anyway?") As you may know already, the movie is totally excellent and every geek in the country should rush right out to see it when it opens. - Sunday I got to hear 60 Welshmen singing. Thank goodness Nuphy called to remind me, since I'd gotten the month wrong. I'd write about this first, but that would force me to confront my embarrassing sentimentality
