Journey to the West II: Ni Haoward
Soon I'm off in search of Chinese books. The Peking Book House, which used to be located in downtown E-ton, was forced out by development into a new location near the Main stop and, thence, across the border into Chicago after two months. I only found this out after taking the wrong bus and passing by the place on my way to Ridge.
I wish I could remember better where I saw it. The address I've found is on the 2000 block of Howard, but plugging this into MapQuest gets you a location east of the El, whereas plugging in an address of a restaurant in the 2100 block puts you west of Ridge. Confusing matters, the Reader describes the restaurant as being in "Rogers Park", although Ridge is theoretically the western boundary of that neighbourhood. Oh, and Damen, which crosses Howard west of Clark, is 2000 West.
No matter. I shall ride to the Howard stop, get out, and start walking. Either I find the bookstore, meet up with
monshu, and enjoy a fabulous dinner or I end up in a culvert. If I don't come back, I will my priceless collection of first edition "Teach Yourself" books to the Newberry.
