So, last night I fixed dinner for
monshu, had some unsafe sex, and walked him back home. The wind was from the west, so the lakefront was actually fairly sheltered. And it was mild! 50° Fahrenheit, even four hours after sunset! The moon shone extremely brightly. At dusk, it had appeared neatly sliced in half vertically and no matter how much I looked at it, I couldn't convince myself it was an orb rather than a flat half-circle. By nine, it had tilted onto its side like a lemon wedge.
monshu pointed out that it looked strikingly like the jinwen (archaic Chinese) character for "moon".
After seeing him in, I walked back along the beach for a while. I was coming through the underpass just south of my building when I noticed a man-shaped pile of stuff at the far entrance. I steered clear of it, thinking it was another homeless guy sleeping in the park. As I got closer, I saw that it was two people, sharing a sleeping bag--and one was reading a book! I only got a quick glance, but it seemed to be a young, well-kempt Hispanic male with a happy smile on his face and a young woman resting her head on his shoulder.
What, were they camping? Trysting? Vacationing on the cheap? Why would a respectable-looking, apparently-heterosexual pair stretch out on the concrete is a public park at night?
