The ride up Ashland last night reminded me of something I've wanted for years: A map of the city made up of lines tracing where I've been. Maybe a hard black line for routes I've walked and a soft, broken, or coloured line for ones I took in a bus or a car. The more times I'd been over a particular route, the thicker the line would be, so that much of the city would be covered in thin tracery, at best, whereas parts of Hyde Park in particular would be almost solid black.

I always imagined an animated world map -- in fact, it hadn't occurred to me until just now that that's now a trivial thing to make -- with a little red dot indicating where I was, leaving a trail behind it, slowly fading. So, places I lived a long time would have a dark red dot mostly burned in, fading very slowly, while highways (for example) would fade very quickly to a faint pink.

Misty wetlands nights like tonight make me understand the grid system of Chicago in a truly linear way, not just in a hypothetical sense.

"Whoa, dude... it's all just lines, man." Just without the stoner voice.

That reminds me, we have to get back to our quest to walk all of Lincoln. I can't even remember all the places we've already been.

That just means we'll have to do some parts twice! Most of it's changing so fast that it would be really worth it to reacquaint ourselves with what's there.
