It takes a village to get Da moved, 2
Today's asshole patron (Interlude): Some guy who moved a PC so he could view it while typing on a typewriter. When the supervisor told him not to move the equipment, he argued with her. She was telling us about this when he came up and asked if it was permitted to adjust the monitor or did this constitute "moving the equipment". Dude, we're letting you use our expensive equipment with T1 Internet access FOR FREE. If you don't like the restrictions we put on this use, move the equipment UP YOUR ASS.
But such annoyances will cease to trouble me in the days ahead. I've got a home to domesticate!
I left the closing yesterday with the keys in my pocket and a buttload of errands to run. The first of these was coffee (well, smoothies, actually) with e., who filled me in on my redecorating options. Bad news: The stucco wall cannot go. It is plaster and if I sand it, it will fall off the laths. Good news: They make special rollers for painting uneven surfaces like this and a good, dark colour will minimise the impact of the texture.
The stifling weather, midday cloudburst, and my own exhaustion cut into my ability to accomplish things, but I did manage to (1) get insured; (2) get proof of this to my condo association; (3) set up Ganesh on a makeshift altar in my kitchen; (4) change my address at my bank; (5) reschedule phone installation [see following entry]; and (6) pick my colours. And when I say "pick my colours", I mean "give my approval to the colours e. picked out last night". She's amazing. I described what I wanted in an e-mail day before yesterday, she cleaned out the Sherwin-Williams paint chip shelves that night, and last night she presented me with her top choices. If they look on the wall the way they do on the cards (which they won't, of course), they'll be perfect.
It's going to be all Martha, all the way. Barn red for the accent wall, complemented by Parchment walls and, perhaps, flat black on some details, like the iron column. A Birdbath bedroom with Stormy Coast windowsills and door trim. Wasabi is the leading choice for the bathroom, but I need to see it next to my towels before I'll be sure.
monshu brought the cava and cranberry juice for the baptism; e. brought a gorgeous variegated orange rose and painting supplies. I hauled over my Chinese chess set, a roll of toilet paper, and my phone. These things (plus Ganesh) constitute the entire personal contents of my abode--though that's soon to change. We stopped by Rique's for a mildly-disappointing dinner (imagine our chagrin to discover how imperfect the climate control is!), then e. and
bunj swapped me my liquor, a piece of glass, and a poster for a bunch of empty boxes. By the time I realised what they had left me with, they were long gone.

Oh, never mind. I'm straight and I'm a slob. I'm a stright-up slob. I'm a sleepless straight-up slob, which is entirely why this post has gone on for as long as it has. Plese disregard.

The colour

The Nazis were also keen on them. Thanks to lime, ochre and charcoal, they're the oldest color scheme known to man. I think they have a certain stark beauty to them.

On Saturday I'm bringing some beans. I've got my eye on your cow.

Very popular with Arab countries as well, with Egypt, Syria, Iraq, and Yemen all using the same base design of three monochrome stripes in those colors.
And let's not forget Mickey Mouse.
Stucco
Stucco is actually pretty decent for that.
