muckefuckIn some respects, the wedding was everything I expected it would be. We nearly got lost finding the country club and when we arrived, there were five valets ready to pounce. There was exactly one black dude there. I felt as the one openly-identified homosexual, I should go up and fist bump him in solidarity or something, but he left before I had my chance.
I didn't expect, however, that it would be in a barn. And I certainly didn't expect readings from Ben Gibbard and Dr Seuss or a combination of canned music and live vocals on the dance floor. But after a cocktail or two, it all made sense and I was contorting my body into positions I don't think it's assumed in nearly a decade.
I'll be in a world of hurt tomorrow, but it'll be worth it. I'm so glad I was able to come down and wish my cousin all the best with her married life as well as her senatorial campaign. For all their faults, Mom's family really are good people, as they prove whenever I give them a chance. With any luck, my cousin's wife will make a little time for me when she drops off her daughter at Chicago this coming weekend.
